Pelosi v. CIA part III (Updated)

July 12th, 2009

There may come a time when I rename this post series, as it seems Pelosi is becoming a back story in this…
Rumors are circulating about who lied to whom, who told them to tell those lies, who knew about the lies, and what the lies were, and it is getting complicated.  With the Sotomayor hearings coming up, I wonder how much coverage this will get.

The newest information points to a few anonymous people stating that Cheney directed the CIA not to brief Congress on a covert project.  Normally that is lying through ommission, but I’m not convinced yet.  That said, I am inclined to believe it happened, and that it more will come of it.  Politico has some good coverage.

A new Wallstreet Journal article gets into some of the details, although I doubt we’ll ever really know what the mission was.

This is all starting to look a lot more like redirection to me, meaning that this is an attempt to come up with something that the CIA might have done that was even slightly out of line, paint it as a lie (this was an omission if anything), and distract from the undisputed fact that Pelosi accused the agency of outright lying to her.
